Only the pure of heart, body, and soul may learn the ancient technique of Friday Fun videos and win the What’s Your Tag Death Tournament of Death! Our first competitor comes from the mysterious and far off place known as England. It is truly a battle for the ages as the hand of animator and concept artist Jonny Lawrence, takes on his own marker Akuma-esque creation:
Epic, but can it stand up to our next fighter? A man who challenged the world, a man who dares to dream, yes the world’s first analrapist: Dr. Tobias Funke. To celebrate the return of Arrested Development on May 26, the producers created a viral website with the “INSERTMEANYWHERE” challenge. This call to the arena was taken up by Capcom’s Unity Blog:
Finally while we can all agree that the Street Fighter series is the grand champion of fighting games, what of it’s first real rival to that title? What of Mortal Kombat? Well, via Muppetism and youtube user, Herman McClain, we know it wasn’t always pretty:
Should I feel shame that I owned the Mortal Kombat soundtrack as kid? I’m just gonna go ahead a feel shame about that. Happy Friday Everyone!
Now combine the empty soda can, the rusty key, the tripod, and the calendar to open the secret door to Friday fun videos! While old school adventure games have long since gone, I held out some hope that when Disney bought out Lucas Film, and by extension Lucasarts, we’d see at least some kind of revival of those great bizarre adventure games they put out. Sadly last month Disney put the final nail in that coffin. Fortunately, musician and animator, Felipe Machado has created this fantastic animation to give us all some closure: Continue Reading
Yo, Mr. Whats Your Tag readers it’s time to Friday Fun videos! One of my favorite shows is Breaking Bad, I love it so much I can’t even watch it on tv. I have to wait for the dvds because I need to watch the season all in one go (or reasonably close to one go). That is why I’m stunned in amazement and joy by the achievement of Brian Anderson and his LEGO Breaking Bad animation based on the Traveller’s Tales series of games:
In a world where Fridays come once a week… One website will… HAVE… FRIDAY… FUN. So this week it was announced that Ratchet and Clank is being made into a feature length movie.
Now we all know video games do not have the best track record when it comes to being adapted to films, but this looks really good. First and foremost, it’s animated. No shoehorning creepy live action mixed with cgi in there. Secondly, it appears they’re sticking to the look and feel of the games. We don’t have to worry about Ratchet being a scrappy kid from Jersey and Clank being a super model ghost from the future or something. You see when you stick to the established elements you can get some really interesting results. This is something AndrewMFilms has definitely figured out with SimCity: Mayor Meltdown:
That is something I would watch for 90 minutes. Happy Friday Everyone!
This past week saw Nintendo continue it’s Year of Luigi as well as make a ton of other awesome announcements. Sadly even with his own year, the green wearing brother can’t catch a break as Tiny Cartridge points out with this photo:
Yes it seems, Mario has snuck his way onto the Luigi special edition 3DS. You know for an overweight plumber, that I always assume smells like Carlo Rossi, Mario gets around. Aside from his day job of saving women from large animals, he plays tennis, golf, go karts, pretends to be a doctor, and many many more. But there is one thing Luigi gets to do Mario doesn’t and that’s catch ghosts! That is, it was the only thing Luigi got to do until the extremely talented James Farr came along:
Mario even gets to be Venkman, that’s gotta hurt. Happy Friday Everyone!
You see, what the killer forgot was that by traversing the calendar it becomes Friday once again! Let’s face it, Sherlock Holmes is awesome. He’s Batman with less punching, but he makes up for it by using Baritsu when throwing Math professors off of waterfalls. Also, like Batman, his sidekick can be weird and sometimes down right creepy:
That comes to us, this past week, from Focus Interactive, the publisher of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes series of games. It’s a riff on a programming error from their 2007, Sherlock Holmes versus Arsene Lupin, also known as Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis. In the game, Watson has no walking animation so he just sort of teleports. This was made into the Creepy Watson viral video, you can check it out below from youtube user, tdous:
In the end Slender ain’t got nuthin’ on Watson. Happy Friday Everyone!
In a world with a work week that ends in… Friday! As a lot of you know movies based on games tend to be pretty terrible. But that hasn’t stopped people from making them and it has given fuel to the internet parody machine. The group Gritty Reboots gives us a glimpse of an adventure 25 million pokeballs in the making:
Well of course videogame movies have to be gritty, but why not artful? What about say, American Psycho like? The guys at Rocket Jump know just the game that would work for that:
Finally to wrap things up we give you an actual movie trailer. This week saw the announcement of an anime adaptation for Persona 3, with the title Spring of Rebirth:
Happy Friday Everyone!
Greetings! Once again it has come down to Friday. This past week saw the release of two games we’ve been waiting awhile to see. The first up, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate from Capcom. To celebrate Capcom Unity (oh Capcom + Community, I get it) created this great video to play on the beauty of consumerism:
While Capcom may be a giant faceless corporation, they really are a pretty cool giant faceless corporation. The second game we couldn’t wait to get was of course, Gears of War: Judgement. Comedian, Kumail Nanjiani brings us a series of sketches presented by IGN and Funny or Die, including what we’ve all secretly longed for, a Gears of War play:
I am so glad my 360 happens to be haunted. Happy Friday Everyone!
Once again the tides of war have turned in favor of Friday. This past week saw the release of the StarCraft II expansion, Heart of the Swarm. In honor of this Carbot Animations have redone the opening cinematic. Behold the cuddliness of war!
And here’s the original for a comparison:
I like Carbot’s better. Also be sure to check out their series, StarCrafts done in the same style:
Beware a Marine rush and have a Happy Friday Everyone!
This past week saw the reboot of gaming royalty that, much like real royalty, had become inbred and kind of weird. I’m talking of course about, Tomb Raider. The new game has gotten a lot of great reviews but does it have what it takes to impress one of the great game critics of our time, Conan O’Brien?
Wow, that river bit was brutal. Almost as brutal as this Tomb Raider rap from KadeshFlow is sweet: Continue Reading
