Yesterday the world got an exclusive look at the first trailer for The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. Pardon me for this terrible pun, but Activision should have entitled this the ”Survival Instink-ed” trailer because it’s just downright smelly looking.
Let me just get my bias right out there in the open, I don’t like The Walking Dead. As a huge fan of zombies and undead culture, (Hipster Mode: Way before it became mainstream) this is almost hard to say. The show is incredibly overrated and bloats itself with outrageous amounts of ridiculous drama. The characters are unrelatable and the show capitalizes on any chance to take advantage of these inhuman traits.
All of that aside, this game looks pretty bad. There is screen tearing throughout the video, the graphics are really poor, considering this game is backed by Activision, and the animations for both the character and AI seem very dated. To be fair, this game is still in development, but if Terminal Reality feels that this trailer is acceptable to show to the public, it doesn’t bode well for the final product. The overall concept of the game seems very interesting and with a few changes this could end up being a really cool title. I hope the company gets some constructive feedback and turns this in to a solid game.
Wait, this game has all ready been made. It’s called, “Dead Island.” When I saw the game play a few days ago on IGN, I thought maybe it was still in alpha or quite possibly beta because it looked utterly like shit. But, as we all know, Activision is all about the $$$ and rarely about quality.
Yea it’s like if you took the original Left 4 Dead and took out any sort of action. Unfortunately even the first Left 4 Dead looks far better graphically than this game does.

Well that’s a slight relief. It doesn’t really change the fact that the in game graphics and animations are awful.

Yeah they said it’s slated for a late 2013 release. I’m assuming they will try to squeeze it in around Halloween. I really do hope it ends up looking better. It has potential.
