After what seemed like an eternity, Retro City Rampage was finally released on Xbox Live today. It’s been available on PS3 and for a few weeks and Steam even longer than that. BroBox gamers rejoice! I picked the game up today and I’ve been having a blast with it. It’s completely outrageous, but in the best kind of way.
The game doesn’t waste any time jumping into parody and there are probably 20 retro game/film references in the first 5 minutes. I’ve only been able to rampage for a short period of time, but I’ve found quite a few things I really like. The gameplay for the most part is very reminiscent of the first two Grand Theft Auto games, but there are many moments where the game switches styles completely. From Contra, to Metal Gear, to Super Mario Bros, and so many more in-between. I was even able to find the in-game arcade where you can play Super Meat Boy and Epic Meal Time mini-games.
Retro City Rampage is currently available for 800 Microsoft Points and it’s well worth it. Check back later this week for my review of the game!
